Soccer Ministry in the Prison SystemOver the past 13 years Bob Jones University has traveled thousands of miles, played hundreds of soccer games and ministered to thousands of players and individuals. While in Sorocaba we have had the opportunity to reach men and boys in the juvenile and adults facilities. The language of soccer speaks around the world and especially in the country of Brazil. Every Brazilian wants to take on the American players! What an open door the Lord has given to reach these young men with the gospel and see their lives changed for eternity.
In 2013 after playing four games in a row all the prisoners sat on the floor to hear clear a presentation of how a sinner can receive the Savior. A number of young men responded and one fellow in particular cried for a long time before we could speak with him. His greatest concern was could God forgive him for taking the life of another man? The message of the gospel is powerful and at this hour we had the wonderful privilege of sharing with this prisoner that God came to save sinners no matter how great the sin. He was made free that day from the prison that he had lived with in his soul. |
